Welcome to our live blog of the 2013 Golden Globe Awards where myself and Laremy Legel will be providing running commentary and up-to-the-minute winner announcements over the course of three straight hours of Golden Globe excitement.
This is the seventh year in a row we have provided a live blog of the events and, as always, we're hoping to do better than the last time out.
Over the course of the evening Laremy Legel from Film.com and I will be providing commentary, winners and anything else that comes to mind. I will be breaking things up on an hourly basis, providing a page break at the end of each hour to hopefully keep things manageable and in the right hand column you will notice I have placed a list of the winners, which will update live as they are announced.
If you'd like to catch up and see how we do the live blog around here you can check out previous installments at the following links: 2012 | 2011 | 2010 | 2009 | 2008 | 2007 | 2006.
While blogging, winners will be highlighted
The show begins at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST and blogging will begin around 4:45 PM PST or so. So, while we wait for things to get started why don't you comment below and let everyone know where you are reading the blog from and I will be back shortly with the start of live commentary.
[4:38:32 PM] Laremy says: I am here! Have they handed out all the Globes yet?
[4:41:23 PM] Laremy says: Trivia: I have been accredited to the Golden Globes in years past. However, instead of going, I just decided to live my life.
[4:47:24 PM] Brad says: We are here and Jessica Chastain is telling us she's wearing Calvin Klein, it's quite the fascinating interview.
[4:47:31 PM] Laremy says: Biggest story of the night - there's a lot of buzz out there that Affleck could take away the Best Director Globe from Steven Spielberg. I think Globe ballots were due right before the CCMA's, meaning there couldn't have been any overflow and an Affleck win would be another sign the Academy done messed up. Messed up good.
[4:53:26 PM] Brad says: So Sofia Vergara is pushing her social networks? Maybe she's already burned through all that money she made working on The Smurfs.
[4:54:21 PM] Laremy says: "Jay Leno is crushing it right now!" - is something no one ever says.
[4:54:26 PM] Brad says: We are about seven minutes away from show time... Why don't you share where you're reading from while we wait because Jay Leno isn't exactly entertaining me in this interview.
[4:54:58 PM] Brad says: Al Roker just told Dustin Hoffman it must be nice tonight since the "pressure is off," which translates to, "you weren't nominated."
[4:56:01 PM] Brad says: Matt Lauer just told us things are quieting down on the red carpet... this means the show is about to start. Hold on to your knickers, this is going to be cuh-razy!
[4:56:14 PM] Laremy says: Dustin Hoffman just said his new movie Quartet looks like "a wait for video" before telling us to still see it in theaters. You know the marketing guys are loving that sentiment.
[4:59:23 PM] Laremy says: How good doesn't that show "Do No Harm" look?!
[4:59:50 PM] Laremy says: Whenever people say "history will be made" I get annoyed. I want to know about the times history isn't being made.
[5:00:16 PM] Brad says: We can now hear the NBC producer counting down... pretty sure that's not supposed to be heard.
[5:00:56 PM] Laremy says: Were any of you guys at the first Golden Globe awards? They were held on a blimp.
[5:00:59 PM] Brad says: It has begun and out comes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler... I have confidence in these two.
[5:02:02 PM] Brad says: "Only at the Golden Globes to the beautiful people of film rub shoulders with the rat faced people of television." - Amy Poehler
[5:02:04 PM] Laremy says: Brad gets so mad about the television component of the Golden Globes. Wanna know why? His first pet (a lizard) was killed by a television.
[5:03:27 PM] Brad says: "When it comes to torture, I trust the lady that was married for three years to James Cameron." - Amy Poehler
[5:04:10 PM] Brad says: They're making a joke about the Hollywood Foreign Press, which makes me wonder if Tina or Amy even know who they are. Does anyone?
[5:04:48 PM] Brad says: Tom Hooper is giving Anne Hathaway a creepy grin.
[5:06:19 PM] Brad says: Meryl Streep didn't show up? But what about that Hope Springs nomination? Doesn't think this one is in the bag?
[5:06:46 PM] Laremy says: Poehler and Fey are getting in a lot of solid shots here. Not Gervais level yet, but very solid.
[5:07:41 PM] Laremy says: How is a guy named Mandy the manliness man in the room?
[5:08:52 PM] Brad says: Kate Hudson is here from The Reluctant Fundamentalist... pretty sure no one knows what that is just yet.
[5:09:00 PM] Laremy says: Supporting Actor time! I like starting with a biggie.
[5:09:27 PM] Brad says: And the winner is... I'm saying Tommy Lee Jones... let's see....
[5:10:13 PM] Brad says: Golden Globe goes to
[5:10:47 PM] Laremy says: Christoph Waltz wins for Django Unchained. I'll start the controversy now, did he only win because he was foreign?
[5:11:03 PM] Laremy says: I should note that I'm fine if that was the reason. Waltz is my jam.
[5:11:13 PM] Brad says: Wow, he certainly seems grateful... What a nice surprise.
[5:12:01 PM] Brad says: Kerry Washington and Dennis Quaid out to present Supporting Actress in a Mini-Series
[5:12:03 PM] Laremy says: Dennis Quaid might have eaten a bunch of marbles.
[5:12:42 PM] Brad says: And the Golden Globe goes to
[5:12:46 PM] Laremy says: Maggie Smith is off living her life!
[5:14:01 PM] Brad says: Now we're heading to commercial... How about that Christoph Waltz win? Supporting Actor category at the Oscars is still wide open, I wonder how much this helps... or does it?
[5:14:15 PM] Laremy says: Ohhhh, Patinkin's first name is "Mandel". Now it makes sense, carry on.
[5:16:28 PM] Brad says: I don't watch "Modern Family", but is Sofia Vergara entertaining enough on that show to make up for how annoying she is everywhere else?
[5:17:04 PM] Laremy says: Anyone out there watching "Goon"?
[5:17:31 PM] Brad says: We're back and Eva Longoria and Don Cheadle are telling us who the Ms. and Mr. Golden Globes.
[5:17:49 PM] Brad says: Now the award for Mini-Series or TV Movie...
[5:18:02 PM] Laremy says: Wait, Michael J. Fox's son is a philanthropist? He's like 22!
[5:18:28 PM] Brad says: Golden Globe goes to
[5:19:02 PM] Brad says: Music is about to run out as these people are taking quite awhile to get to the stage. Oops, bleeped out... someone said a naughty word.
[5:19:27 PM] Brad says: However, more seriously, I need to see "Game Change"... supposed to be good.
[5:19:40 PM] Laremy says: "Game Change" gets it done. I liked that movie, overall, but I still don't care all that much. I'm still mad about TV hurting Brad's lizard.
[5:20:08 PM] Brad says: This guy has jokes... but not really.
[5:21:02 PM] Brad says: Now we're moving to an actress in a TV movie or mini-series... things are picking up.
[5:21:39 PM] Laremy says: There are only 84 members of the HFPA, which means it takes a voting block of about 25 people to win.
[5:21:41 PM] Brad says: Golden Globe goes to
[5:22:45 PM] Brad says: Julianne Moore says everything is great and amazing... Oh and Amy Poehler is in the audience with fake teeth in... it's a bit weird... and funny.
[5:22:48 PM] Laremy says: They are sort of clowning Julianne Moore's speech. Interesting choice.
[5:23:14 PM] Brad says: Julianne wants to give a shout out but the music is telling her to hush it up and out comes Catherine Zeta-Jones.
[5:23:56 PM] Brad says: CZJ is singing to tell us Les Miserable is a Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) contender, or something like that since she wasn't entirely specific.
[5:24:11 PM] Laremy says: Why did they have to pull that boat in Les Miserables?
[5:24:35 PM] Brad says: Commercial time again
[5:24:39 PM] Laremy says: I know for a fact that they had docks back then.
[5:25:50 PM] Laremy says: Everyone in the comments, please tell Brad to get me a coffee. He doesn't pay attention to what I write, but he reads the comments. Thanks!
[5:26:38 PM] Brad says: After that win for Waltz I'm wondering what other "surprises" there may be. Django for script? Tarantino for director? I'm wondering if Ang Lee can take director.
[5:28:38 PM] Laremy says: Brad told me I can have one during the next commercial break. Thanks much, guys!
[5:28:48 PM] Brad says: The show is back and Laremy will get his coffee when I feel he has earned it!
[5:29:29 PM] Brad says: Oh, and now the HFPA president is going to tell us something... everyone feel free to fall asleep for a little while.
[5:29:48 PM] Laremy says: The HFPA President is quite the ginger lovely. Gotta remember to LinkedIn with her.
[5:29:53 PM] Brad says: This is painful.
[5:30:17 PM] Laremy says: I think this might be her obituary, but hey, at least she's self-effacing.
[5:30:34 PM] Brad says: She just joked about the room not knowing her name, but I'm not sure she expected everyone to laugh as much as they did. Looked like she might cry.
[5:31:11 PM] Brad says: Rosario Dawson is going to now introduce The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which I still haven't seen... Looks action packed!
[5:31:36 PM] Brad says: Looks a lot like Battleship.
[5:31:54 PM] Brad says: "If she dies, she dies"? That was stolen from Rocky IV!
[5:31:59 PM] Laremy says: Please let this be a movie award ...
[5:32:22 PM] Brad says: Salma Hayek and Paul Rudd will now make bad jokes and then tell us who wins Best Actor for a TV Series (Drama).
[5:33:27 PM] Laremy says: I love Damian Lewis in "Homeland". But he'll never be better than he was in "Band of Brothers".
[5:33:28 PM] Brad says: Golden Globe goes to
[5:33:57 PM] Laremy says: Because I've only seen Lewis play American, his actual British accent always throws me for a loop.
[5:35:22 PM] Laremy says: That was like Ron Burgondy without his teleprompter.
[5:35:48 PM] Laremy says: Poor Paul Rudd had nowhere to turn.
[5:35:52 PM] Brad says: After that snafu we get Best TV Series Drama winners and the Golden Globe goes to
[5:37:47 PM] Brad says: Damn, they are giving these people a lot of time to talk... wrap it up please.
[5:37:48 PM] Laremy says: These guys are definitely going to get played off.
[5:38:19 PM] Brad says: Commercial break is here
[5:39:37 PM] Laremy says: Brad went to make some coffee so I don't pass out. So it's just us gals now!
[5:41:04 PM] Laremy says: For what it's worth, I'll echo commenter PinstripedJon. Carrie Mathison is the type of lady who might murder you in your sleep, but you'd still want to give the relationship a chance.
[5:42:35 PM] Laremy says: They are back and handling the Argo presentation.
[5:43:25 PM] Laremy says: Actual C.I.A. agent Tony Mendez is in the house, but they don't have him mic'd. Really nice production so far, HFPA!
[5:44:22 PM] Laremy says: Brad is back, so everyone behave.
[5:44:44 PM] Brad says: Jennifer Lopez and Jason Statham are out to say they star in Parker together... and present the Globe for Best Original Score. My prediction is Life of Pi, but I'm not confident in that.
[5:45:06 PM] Laremy says: Am I the only one who thought Desplat's score for Zero Dark Thirty was superior?
[5:45:38 PM] Brad says: Golden Globe goes to
[5:47:02 PM] Brad says: Mychael Danna says he's going to share his Globe with Ang Lee... I don't believe him.
[5:47:31 PM] Brad says: And yes, I spelled his name correctly.
[5:47:46 PM] Brad says: Now J-Lo and The Stath will present Best Song... my prediction is "Skyfall"
[5:48:56 PM] Brad says: And the Golden Globe goes to
[5:49:09 PM] Laremy says: I wanted Les Miserables to win for Best Original Song. But it didn't.
[5:49:35 PM] Laremy says: Brad is doing a dynamite rendition of "Skyfall" by Adele right now. I really wish I would have recorded it.
[5:50:16 PM] Brad says: Adele is quite happy.
[5:50:29 PM] Laremy says: Brian Zitzelman in la casa! Hey, are they still screening movies in this region?
[5:52:50 PM] Brad says: It's a commercial break and Crate & Barrel is boring me with words on white.
[5:53:17 PM] Laremy says: You guys see they just revealed the new Corvette Stingray? Imma get one of those with all my Live Blog / Podcast earnings.
[5:54:50 PM] Brad says: Watching all these commercials for TV shows reminds me why I don't watch television. That said, it's time for a page break... join us on Page Two will you...
Sorry about the Seahawks, guys. As a Bills fan, I can't really remember what it feels like to be in a playoff game. . .
FALCONS! YES! Sorry guys.
Checking in from just outside Richmond, VA. Be glad you didnt' cover the red carpet this year...at least on NBC. It's awful. The best moment has been seeing Jennifer Lawrence stand a full head taller than Al Roker.
As a Lions fan, I agree with Fox when they say they don't really know what it's like to be in a playoff game.
Looking forward to the live blog. Hopefully the site doesn't crash for you Brad.
Hey cool! I'm a lions fan too! Too bad we sucked this year, but were used to it.
anyone have a good stream?
ceremony starts at 5 pst right?
Yup
Reading from Rochester, New York, and enjoying the Patriots win before the Globes!
Watching from Salt Lake.
*caugh* page refresh *caugh*
;)
And here we go... Rooting for Zero Dark Thirty!
Mel Gibson is at a table with Robert Downey Jr...it's a fact but sounds like the beginning of a bad joke.
Reading from the suburbs of Chicago! Sorry about the Seahawks loss, but it was one hell of a 4th quarter though.
Reading from St. Louis and excited about Tina Fey and Amy Poehler! And just in time, a James Cameron ZING! Crushed it.
Loved Joaquin Phoenix's reaction to that James Cameron Kathryn Bigelow joke.
adu, from Lahore, Pakistan (visiting family)...no Globes TV coverage here, so here I am.
No problem with Christoph winning, even though he is a lead...
My god, that James Cameron zing had me laughing my ass off. Also, yay for Waltz (to be fair, I haven't seen Django yet, but I really like this guy!)
I am glad Christoph won. In my opinion, he can do no wrong. As far as the lead/supporting controversy goes, I can see merits to both arguments. I don't think he is clearly won or the other enough to give anyone too much beef. I'm just happy for him.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are pretty good so far. I would've rather seen TLJ win, but Waltz was great in Django. And he gave a nice speech too.
From ATL which should be obvious from my Falcons comments
A win for Django! Wouldn't it be awesome if QT took director & screenplay... just sayin.
It would be indeed.
That would be pure awesomeness
Texans lost...
Anyways, Let's go Zero Dark Thirty!
It's my 5th Golden Globe live commentary with RopeOfSilicon.
Greetings from Russian Far East!
Julianne Moore's Sarah Palin impersonation was scary good.
They pulled the boat because the people in jail did hard labor, like pulling in giant damaged ships, Laremy
Brad, get lare my a coffee.
Damn auto correct, apparently your name is wrong Laremy.
Hey Brad, Laremy wants coffee.
I'm predicting Argo for Picture, Director and Screenplay.
Interesting music choice for the HFPA president.
I am sensing Laremy may be interested in some coffee. Brad, want to help a brother out?
And with that, Silver Linings is winning it all.
Why do you say?
The president with her little pick up line to Bradley Cooper. If anything, Cooper is probably going to get it over Jackman. Then why would it just randomly go to Les Mis?
Fair point. :) I do hope SLP wins! Although I'm kinda rooting for Jack Black to upset in Best Actor, I'd be happy with him or Cooper.
Ugghh, a win for Homeland :(
Is it not good? I've heard nothing but praise for the show.
I am a big fan. There were a few episodes that strained plausibility, but I love the show. The actors definitely deserve all the awards they receive.
You could just transfer from problems with Argo and apply them to Homeland.
*just transfer MY problems from
@C10
AS's thoughts on Homeland might be the longest in what I watched history of life so his thoughts are on the site somewhere.
Get through the first few episodes of season 1 and it'll pick up pace. Season 2 is substantially better than season 1. People who haven't liked it so far that I know is because the first few episodes are slow and they stop after it.
Not a fan? I still haven't watched it.
Something tells me we're going to be seeing some big surprises tonight, that is if we ever get back to the movie awards...
I'm predicting Argo to win big, but i really hope Bigelow wins Director
Haven't seen Homeland, but i hate to see Breaking Bad lose.
Get through the first few episodes of season 1 and then it'll pick up pace. Season 2 is substantially better than season 1
So far very happy with the awards with Christoph Waltz, Damien Lewis and Homeland!!
Agreed! Waltz is mesmerizing, and I really hope Mandy Patinkin wins supporting actor. He is incredible and one of the main reasons I keep coming back to the show.
I don't care how crazy she may be, I want to run away and marry Carrie Mathison.
Some movie awards, please?
Cinemascore and Chitara should be live blogging!
Life of Pi may be a silent front runner.
Laremy, I agree with you in that Desplat's score for Zero Dark Thirty was far superior than his for Argo. In fact, I would even say it was one of the best scores of the year.
Here comes J-Lo's jealous bitch face after Adele wins.
Come on Act of Valor song, for comedy alone.
I never knew Taylor Swift wrote a song for Hunger Games.
Adele deserves it. A very talented musician.
On the plus side, hooray for Skyfall!
Very happy Skyfall took one home!
I love Adele. A win deserved. Now, all she needs to do is start preparing her Oscar speech =)
I do too! I'm very glad she won.
Wow, Smaug is nominated
They are indeed sir. Lots of fun double-booking on Thursdays of the night before opening.
CUMBERBATCH WUZ ROBBED!!!!
I wish Benedict Cumberbatch won for Sherlock. That's one of the best shows on television.
That being said, Hatfields & McCoys was pretty good too.
Ya, I can't be too bummed. I love Sherlock, but can't be upset over a win for Costner.
We all do. Star fucking, though. It's why I've only gotten two wrong
Over/under 4 years until Costner plays a baseball coach?
Bill Clinton?
Yeah, the guy who approved Glass' Steagall...
I know who he is, I was just surprised to see him there, lol.
C'mon Laremy, it's just the Golden Globes.
Hey look Bill Clinton!!
OK I'm late to the party but woohoo for Life of Pi's score! Also I for one think Argo and Lincoln are dull Best Picture winners so lets go for Life of Pi... or Zero Dark Thirty which is impossible.
Seriously though, Sherlock is awesome. And agreed on the Costner speech.
I love Costner, but unfortunately I haven't seen the miniseries.
Give it a watch, it's good. Especially for something put on by the History Channel
Let's go Poehler!!!!!!!
Oh, this is MOVIE comedy. My bad.
So, Jennifer Lawrence all the way!!!
Ok, Ferrell and Wiig are hilarious!
I hate Will Ferrell... but that was funny.
That Tommy Lee Jones face was priceless. Oh, and Jennifer Lawrence winning was great as well.
Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig for the win!!
Very nice speech from Jennifer!
*Obligatory Harvey Weinstein joke
Ferrel and Wiig basically just made the night. Poeler and Fey are doing pretty great too. It's still a pretty slow moving affair though.
That speech was great!
Ugh. Ed Harris instead of Manny Patinkin? Bummer...
The D is silent.
I'm shocked, shocked...maybe not so shocked.
Anne Hathaway deserved it.
Just got here, but it seems that everything is going smoothly! Plus, that Jen Lawrence speech was great.
"Thank you for this blunt object that I will forever use as a weapon against self-doubt." Wow, spitting some wisdom over here.
Glad Hathaway won. She deserved it.
And Hathaway has the Oscar locked. It's pretty much official.
So what's everyone dream table to sit at here?
Tarantino table.
2nd. QT be keepin it real.
3rd.
Who else is really starting to hate these Sofia Vergara Diet Pepsi ads?
ME!!!! Majorly.
At first I was mad about your comment about Sofia Vergara being annoying in everything outside of Modern Family. And then I saw that stupid commercial, again, and again... Needless to say my frustration has subsided. ..
Total shutout #The Master
Good job QT!
Wow, a screenplay win for Tarantino! I can't complain about that.
Agree with QT. Didn't see that win coming.
The Django script is better than the movie itself so I'm not complaining.
Tarantino talk too much lol
*talks
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!
I loved that speech by QT! It was very compimentary!
*complimentary
So glad Tarantino stopped talking haha, not a big Django fan but good for him
QT!
Had a feeling QT would win. Would've preferred Zero Dark Thirty, but whatever. Django's got a good script right up until the ending.
If Django can overtake Lincoln, Argo and ZDT for screenplay, is Director & Picture in sight?
Thinking the same here... It could happen, although I personally want ZDT to win.
Spike Lee is thrashing his room like Orson Wells near the end of Citizen Kane.
Louis C.K. should've won
And it's Don Cheadle, with his overly cliche speech!
Wha? Don Cheadle? Well, at least it wasn't Jim Parsons.
Stallone and Schwarzenegger! For foreign language?
I wonder about Haneke's chances come Oscar night...
That speech sounded exactly like what comes out of his twitter account
yup
That twitter account is literally the greatest thing ever.
Connie Brittons husband looks like Judd Apatow.
Amour! Hooray, Michael! Maybe he'll win an Oscar too...
Boal and Tarantino could split votes as frontrunners now and Amour walks away with the Screenplay Oscar.
It could happen. I mean, ZDT's buzz is flat-lining (which is fine with me).
"For fighting this war against terrorism" - wow.....
Haneke has the foreign language Oscar wrapped up. But that means he will have to give another speech in English
An ex just told me that Salmon Fishing in the Yemen deserved award recognition. I am gracious to God I got out of that one
Before dating someone, ALWAYS check out their movie collection first.
The last one I was with had The Notebook and Freddy Got Fingered in her collection. Your words are wise, AS.
She normally had good taste. This threw me. Now she keeps getting mad at my constant jokes about it
If Brave wins, I'll be so pissed.
hahahaha Brave
Brave, really? Come one, HFPA you can do better than that.
Aaaaand it's Brave. Corbin = pissed
Queen+bear=Queenbear
I mean Brave was FINE, maybe my 3rd favorite of the bunch? doesn't help I've only seen three of the films but could be worse
Sacha Baron Cohen for best actor Golden Globe for his riveting role in The Dictator! Anyone? Anyone?
Hey, I just saw Life of Pi.
Thoughts?
I gave it 3.5/5. My full thoughts are here: http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/what-i-watched-what-you-watched-176/
I thought it was fantastic on a technical level, but some of the story elements were lacking.
Yikes, "brave" is right...You've gotta be brave to argue that "Brave" was the best animated feature of the year.
Am I the only who's annoyed that they aren't showing clips from the movies?
/shows
Yeah, it's annoying.
You are not.
Excited for that Lena Dunham! WOOOOOTTTT! Almost makes up for Brave...Almost.
Ugh, I haven't watched Girls, but Tiny Furniture is rubbish. Well, maybe rubbish is a harsh word, but it's certainly not very good.
Condense Tiny Furniture into 28 minute segments and you have Girls. It a little more light than Tiny Furniture though so...
Well, based on that snippet, I won't be watching Girls anytime soon. Not that I was planning to in the first place anyways...
I liked Tiny Furniture, but it's pretty hard to get into if you want likable characters. Girls is stronger at that, in part because it seems a tad more willing to show off it's characters innate problems.
That's because it has ten 28 minute episodes in a season. Tiny Furniture is about endurance. Same with Girls. I love it but I understand why people don't.
Aww Glad for the "Girls" lovefest, of the few episodes i've seen it's great
I actually really enjoyed Brave, I can see why it won best animated feature
Watching 'Girls' the second the Globes is over. I recommend all of you do the same.
Mel Gibson could walk into an elementary school, kill 25 kids and he'd still be at the Golden Globes the following year...
Not to judge or anything, but that was in poor taste (to say the least)
Yes, because when I think good taste, I think Mad Mel.
I'm starting to think that Django could win it all.\
But maybe I'm thinking too much
That would be amazing... which is exactly why it won't happen.
page 2 sucked hopefully, just hopefully page 3 will make up for it...
Hamster joke...fail
I think that Amy pohler and Tina Fey are doing very well tonight, I think they're the best golden globes hosts yet!
Jodie Foster? Couldn't they give it to someone worthy like Judd Apatow??
Who else wants silver linings playbook to win best picture?
I do!
Mel Gibson should be ostracized in Hollywood, instead of being invited to awards events and treated as if he is a swell guy.
That's what I'm saying.
Agreed. The guy is a scumbag.
he's just a wee bit crazy...
I think what he did was horrendous, but I'm all for forgiveness. And I think that he has demons, and he is working on them. I think Jodie and RDJ will help him
Come on globes give Zero Dark Thirty some love! Just love that movie!
Come on globes give Zero Dark Thirty some love!!
I think that shot of Mel Gibson's face perfectly expresses the type of ass that he is.
lol. He looked like he was desperately searching for something; what, we'll never know....
Wow, Jodie Foster's speech is not good. At all.
For the love of god, you two do a horrendous job live-blogging.
Thanks for reading.
"Are you not entertained?! Are you not entertained?! Is this not why you are here?!"
Yeah, thanks for the words, George!
yeah george... I find this commentary to be just as entertaining as jodie foster...wait
This just made me chuckle rather loudly to myself.
thanks I try... #screwgeorge

"I may never be up on this stage again." We can only hope...
Haha and give his I beat everyone speech...
oops meant to reply to Fox on Jodie Forster and Judd Apatow.
Anne Hathaway tearing up at Jodies Foster's speech. Now THAT guarantees shes got acting skill.
WOO-HOO! SHE IS DONE! SOMEBODY BUST OUT THE CHAMPAGNE!
Hey brad, I was just wondering if you guys are going to do a live blog for the oscars, I think I would enjoy that
Agreed. It helps to know others are in solidarity with my frustration and anguish.
All those people crying during Jodie Foster's speech are good actors. It was just rambling.
Why does a perfectly reasonable person like Jodie Foster like Mel Gibson?!
Why are people always running in the rain in a Nicholas Sparks movie...
Clearly because running in the rain is the most romantic thing anyone can do. EVER.
I know Brad n Laremy are excited to see Safe Haven!
Guess I'm in the minority here, for I loved the speech. I'm with Scott Tobias...
"That speech is going to require a lot of unpacking. It's THE MASTER of awards-show speeches."
BEN AFFLECK!
Take that Academy!
Damn!
I 2nd that... was really pulling for QT...
This win propels Ben Affleck into the lead for Best Director for oscars... oh. right.
WOOHOO!!! Affleck love. He is truly humble and truly talented. Two very rare things in Hollywood. I see his everyone win as a jab at the Academy. They got it wrong. Flat out.
Happy to see Affleck win and yet sad to realize he won't get an Oscar.
No ill-will against Affleck but...Meh!
For a second there I was worried he'd forget to praise the CIA...
I can't believe Brave won Best Animated Feature. Such a terrible movie. Wreck It Ralph was snubbed. But this is why I do not tune into the Golden Globes I just see who won. I do not like to watch. There is always one winner that makes me rather angry. Brave winning just furthur supports me getting angry.
Wow, talk about an unexpected night! Hmm, not sure how Affleck's win will affect the Oscar race though, or if it will even have any effect at all.
Yes! I'm so happy that Ben Affleck won best director for Argo!
I loved Ben Affleck's direction, but honestly, Bigelow's was better. And if Affleck wins the DGA, there will be an uproar.
GIRLS!!!!! AGAIN!!!!!! YES!!!!!
Way to go Ben Affleck. Also, shout out to P.T. Anderson. He is the new Orson Welles.
I am watching Beasts of a Southern Wild instead of the Golden Globes...So much better.
I actually am enjoying the Golden Globes this year. Never would've guessed it, but it has been fun. Regardless, great movie choice. Beasts was my favorite of the year. Hope you like it as much as I did!
Wow, Girls beat Modern Family. Would would've thought.
not me
Well, I'm glad Girls won, even though I've never seen it.
At the moment, the Golden Globes prove that this awards race is still very up in the air. Tonight has been a series of surprises. Let's hope it continues that way, for better or worse...
Ugh. I can't take the Sofia Vergara Diet Pepsi commercials anymore.
Another Diet Pepsi commercial? Really? Now a Zero Dark Thirty commercial that makes it look emotional and dramatic, when just hours earlier I saw a commercial that made it look like a hardcore action film.
GIRLS!!!!!!!!
The iPhone commercials are pretty excessive.
Christian Bale and SLP. Two awesome things.
^This.
Is it just me or is Sophia Vergara just as annoying as Thorin from The Hobbit?
Good Job Hugh Jackman!
Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!
Oh come on, I think Hugh certainly deserves it. Many other nominees, but he was great.
I've yet to see it, I'm just sore over the fact that it looks like Silver Linings may be losing ground to Les Miserables in the Best Comedy/Musical race.
And I'm now really pissed. Oh well, I'll probably be seeing Les Miserables inn the near future, so maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it deserves this award over SLP or Moonrise. But I highly doubt it.
Hugh Jackman wins. He was great in Les Miserables.
Happy to see Jackman win.
A nice win for Jackman. I'm thinking Les Mis will win Best Musical/Comedy now.
Was hoping for a Cooper win but ah well. Jackman was AMAZING as well.
Would've liked Cooper. But this was expected and Jackman was decent. Oh well. . .
Jackman and Hathaway were the best parts about Les Miserables.
Now, does Les Mis win BP - Comedy or Musical?
Yes.
Yes! I'm so glad Hugh Jackman won for les mis! The movie looks great and he looks like he's great in it and I hope to see the movie soon!
Love me some Jackman, it'd be magical to see Joaquin win but here goes another DDL blah speech
Daniel Day-Lewis has to be one of the greatest actors of our time.
Oooooh, Jeremy Renner said a naughty word. Lol.
Renner characterizes the assassination of bin Laden as "the ultimate triumph."
Come on... Moonrise Kingdom upset... please
Silver Linings Playbook was way better than Les Miserables.
The film critic in me acknowledges the truth behind this statement. (Moonrise Kingdom was better as well). But emotionally I really loved Les Mis so I can't be too upset.
Aaaaand it's Les Miz. Of Course.
I guess this means I actually have to see it...
Hooray for Jackman. Liked Les Mis very much, though I may have preferred to see Moonrise Kingdom or Silver Linings Playbook win...
I liked Les Mis as much as anyone, but come on, lets show SLP some love. Or Moonrise. Hmph. HFPA goes period again
Rachel Weisz for Best Actress! Come HFP, let's do it!
Agreed. But Moonrise Kingdom was better than them all.
agreed
Looks like it has been a good night for Django and a great one for Les Mis. I can live with that.
Gosh, that Do No Harm show looks TERRIBLE!!!!!!!
YES CHASTAIN!!!!!
*Yawn* this is not going well. No big surprises, not enough Fey and Poehler, too many commercials for really crappy looking NBC shows.
Oops, this ended up being a reply. My browser was acting all funny, sorry.
Come on Chastain!
George Clooney has clearly been told to rush. . .
Jessica Chastain FTW! Now, if Joaquin Phoenix wins, and ZDT too, then it'll be a great night!
Hooray for Jessica Chastain! Best performance of the year.
Correction, my favorite Female performance of the year. Honestly, I liked Daniel Day-Lewis the best.
Happy for Chastain, but what wins Best Drama?
I think Chastain meant to say that Maya was a strong, independent woman who don't need no man.
I would love to see a John Hawkes win just because he was snubbed and deserved a nom but....Daniel Day-Lewis it is. No complaints here. He truly is incredible.
Did Brave seriously beat Wreck-It Ralph!? WTF!?
Wonder how likely this would be for Oscars. Would be an awards travesty.
Master loses again.
Love DDL, but I wish it was Joaquin.
Goddamn it. Really wanted Joaquin to win. DDL was great, but it's your standard bio-pic performance. Doesn't hold a candle to his other great performances, like There Will Be Blood or Gangs of New York.
DDL is great. Classy guy, and an amazing actor, one of the best ever. Definitely deserves it.
Playing off Daniel Day-Lewis... You think they'd make an exception , Lol.
I know, right? Jodie Foster gets to thank Gibson and ramble about nothing and then Day-Lewis gets seconds. Absurd.
Really? They played off DDL? Really HFPA?
NOO! Not another Diet Pepsi commercial!
How dare they play Daniel Day Lewis off the stage.
HUGE night for ARGO!
YEAH! Go Argo!
This sucks.
I concur...
Good nights for both Argo and Les Miz!
Seems like Lincoln didn't win anything. Except for the no-brainer DDL Best Actor
Just like Laremy said, there is 0 momentum for Lincoln right now. Argo is chugging along. Les Mis, Silver Linings, and Life of Pi have more buzz at this point... I'm still thinking it's going to be Silver Linings at the Oscars.
I'm glad Argo got the top nods, partially because I predicted it, but i love that movie.
I'm glad it wasn't Lincoln, but I'm not much happier about Argo winning. Grrrr.....
No Silver Linings and no Lincoln. This makes me sad. Not that I didn't like Argo and Les Mis. . .
Brad and Laremy thanks for this live-blog.
Alright, I'm off for the night. Good Night everybody!
Globes to Academy: Argo f*ck yourself! :-)
You win my favorite comment of the night. My thoughts exactly, and I couldn't be happier.
Loved Argo so I'm glad to see it and Affleck win, but I'm not sure if it wins Best Picture. I hope it does, but I just can't see it without Affleck being nominated. Could there be a Best Picture/Director split this year?
I am glad that Lincoln has no momentum and that Argo won. How refreshing is it to have an Oscars that are truly surprising and unexpected?! It has been a while. I personally really enjoyed Lincoln, but I also loved SLP, Life of Pi, ZD30, Les Miz, and Django. (Beasts was my favorite movie of the year, but unfortunately has no chance). For me, this has been a great year for film and I am excited to see how it all plays out!
GOOD I like my awards ceremony with as few surprises possible, it begins to get my blood flowing and I don't like that
And thank you, Brad and Laremy, for taking time out of your busy schedules to do this. Anticipating the SAG live blog!
Man, only if Affleck got a Oscar nom we would be talking about how Argo is the frontrunner.
Brad and Laremy you ROCK!
Always enjoy your guys' commentary, see ya around SAGs!
I really don't get how you were not touched by Jodie Foster's speech and you say it got you confused? Dude you can't be so heart-less and start criticizing her heart-felt and honest speech just because you didn't understand it. You should be more worth it.
You totally blew it with your comments about Jodie Foster's speech. She clearly delivered pages of prepared script. And audience reaction showed it resounded deeply. I know it wasn't fan boy stuff, but not everything that matters is.
