2010 Oscars Set for Later Date
Now figure out how to make Oscar shaped cookies
Several people have been emailing me regarding the date for the 2010 Oscars and until now I didn't have an answer for them. Academy President Sid Ganis announced today the 2010 Oscars would be held a little later next year on Sunday, March 7, 2010 from the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland CenterĀ® in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network. This year the Oscars were held on February 22, which means this new date gives the Oscar show producers an additional two weeks for planning and also returns the show into March where it existed for so many years until it was moved into February in 2004.
The following key dates are currently scheduled:
- Tuesday, December 1, 2009: Official Screen Credits forms due
- Monday, December 28, 2009: Nominations ballots mailed
- Saturday, January 23, 2010: Nominations polls close 5 p.m. PT
- Tuesday, February 2, 2010: Nominations announced 5:30 a.m. PT, Samuel Goldwyn Theater
- Wednesday, February 10, 2010: Final ballots mailed
- Monday, February 15, 2010: Nominees Luncheon
- Saturday, February 20, 2010: Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards presentation
- Tuesday, March 2, 2010: Final polls close 5 p.m. PT
- Sunday, March 7, 2010: 82nd Annual Academy Awards presentation
So there it is, start your 2010 Oscar Party plans!

Great, this just prolongs the "in your face" campaigning of the contending prestige films from Weinstein and the other studios.
At least the films will have enough time to expand after their 2-theater releases in December that maybe we'll get a chance to see all of them BEFORE the awards are announced. Or at least 3 or 4 of them.
