2007 GOLDEN GLOBES: A Statement

Tonight (January 15, 2007) on NBC at 8 p.m. EST, the Golden Globe Awards will invade our living rooms and everyone who pays attention to the award season – especially the people who year after year whine how they are of no importance – will be watching. Here at RopeofSilicon, I will be strapped to the chair like Alex de Large, eyes pried open and all that nonsense. I'm sure Laremy will have his quill and parchment ready for another witty, breezy entry of Running Diary. I will return with a Recap, weathered, beaten and hopefully a little wiser. And for a few days we'll all be wondering what the snubs and surprises or lack thereof all means.

Of course the great thing about the Golden Globes is people are a lot looser than the stuffy Oscar telecast and the stars let their hair down a little which is good for all parties, really. It makes for pretty good entertainment. There is a always a higher probability an actor will wake up the next morning and ask themselves, "Oh my God, what was I thinking last night?. Same goes for studio execs. In fact, I have it on good authority that Little Man was green-lit by Columbia Pictures after an executive had one too many mojitos at the Wayan's brothers' table two years ago … Nah, I can't back that up.

The point is, the wine tends to flow nicely around the room. Yes, I can't wait for the night's most embarrassing or most awkward or most sentimental moment. I can't wait to bitch about how undeserving some of the winners are. I can't wait for that surprise great speech. I can't wait to scope out whose cleavage rules them all (Selma Hayek, I will be watching you like a hawk!). I'm doing the pee-pee dance, waiting for the red carpet to roll out.
